In this day and age, with all of the heated hair tools and dyes, it’s good to try to protect our luscious (or not so) locks at least a little bit. I actually didn’t use a heat protection for most of my life but now that I’ve been using it, I absolutely cannot live without it. I will never, ever use heat on my hair without any kind of protection because, let’s be honest- yes, hair grows back, but do we really want to wait for that? No, of course not!
I currently use three different heat protections- two when my hair is wet, and one when my hair is dry. Honestly, I love the two that I use with wet hair more than the one I use on dry hair, as my hair is much more silky and luxurious when I do it that way, but I’m not about to wake up a half hour early just so I can use them. I’m a lazy creature who doesn’t want to wake up at the crack of dawn- sue me.
When my hair is wet, I first towel-dry it, then I put one and a half pumps of Kevin Murphy Young Again Immortelle infused treatment oil into my palm and rub it around to warm it up a bit. That’s not really necessary, but I do it anyway because in my weird, psychotic mind, rubbing your product in your hands makes it work better. After I warm it up, I run my fingers and palms through my wet hair to distribute the product evenly. Honestly, you could totally just stop after this step and be totally fine. This product, I swear, is like magic. Honestly. It makes the world a better place. Everyone should be gifted a lifetime batch of this at birth. I am so in love with it that I am willing to shell out the $37.40 that it costs to purchase it on Amazon, and that’s unheard of for me. I am all about inexpensive products, but this one is worth the splurge, and a little goes a LONG way. The bottle is 3.4 fluid ounces and I’ve had it for two months and it still looks like it’s barely used. I’ll be able to use this product for like… More than a year, honestly. ANYWAY, after I put the first product in my hair, I spray N.4 Lumiere d’hiver Super Comb Prep & Protect over my hair and then I brush it through. The brush glides straight through my hair when I use these products together. It’s like they were specifically created for my head of hair, they work SO WELL. I got a sample of the Lumiere d’hiver Super Comb & Protect in one of my Birchboxes and I’ll definitely continue buying it! It’s selling for $28.99 on Amazon and I TOTALLY recommend it. After I’ve got both of these in my hair and brushed it through, I usually blow it out and leave it like that. I always get so many compliments when I use this method, and I really should do it more often, but again… Lazy.
When my hair is dry and I want to style it, I spray Chi 44 Iron Guard through my hair and then brush and style. I actually do not like this product very much. I had heard good things about Chi hair products and when I saw this spray at TJ Maxx for $11.99, I thought I would try it. But no… That was a bad idea. When I spray it in initially, it makes it hard to brush through, which should have been my first indicator that something was not right, but of course I never listen to my instincts. I used to use Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray, which usually retails at around $10, and I actually really liked it, but I thought it was time for a change. I guess that just teaches you that if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it.
But this is where you, dear readers, come into play! Recommend heat protectants to me and your fellow readers so we can collectively check them out! Write your reviews, recommendations and experiences in the comments and I will be so happy! If you read this and decide to try the products I mentioned, tell me what YOU think about them! Let’s talk it out; Talking is healthy.
Speaking of talking- I apologize right now for the horrible iPhone photos. I could have just taken pictures off Amazon, but hey- this is more personal, right? … Right?
